Decades in the making: Ceremony celebrates bike path project in Central Oahu

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A special dedication ceremony was held Monday for a new bikeway in Central Oahu — a project decades in the making.
The Leeward Bikeway connects the existing West Loch Path and the Pearl Harbor Historic Trail and was created to improve access for bicyclists and pedestrians.
The Hawaii Bicycling League said this is long overdue.
“This is an amazing opportunity for people walking, biking, rolling to have a safe, affordable, sustainable to connect their communities and get where they’re going, have recreation, so we’re excited to see this project come together,” the league said.
There are also informational and historical signage along the bikeway.
It’s expected to be ready for use next year.
