    Description

American Flyer Rotating Air Craft Beacon in excellent condition. Condition is "Used".
The American Flyer Aircraft Beacon was first introduced in 1950 as #769. These were manufactured for Gilbert by the Colber Corporation originally from Orange, and later Irvington, New Jersey. There was more than one version. Some came with attached sheds, others did not. This unit came without a shed. It is in excellent condition. the beacon spins via heat rising from the dimpled bulb through vents in the top of the beacon. All of these beacons were a bit touchy to operate. In order to rotate, it must sit perfectly level in a still (no draft) environment, and sufficient wattage must be delivered to the bulb in order to create sufficient heat rising to rotate the beacon. The more wattage the better it works. Sometimes one has to give the beacon a spin to get it started. If you have an illuminated layout this will look great whether it is spinning or not.
